Director's Intent
James Mangold has directed two Wolverine films, The Wolverine (2013) and Logan (2017). In general, Logan was not made with computing technologies in mind, but rather as a character based story focused on Logan himself. Despite being set in the future and showing many examples of futuristic computing technologies, Mangold was never really focused on the specifics of showing how computing technologies might affect society. However, despite not being the focus of the film, Mangold shows that computing technologies will still remain significant to everyone’s lives as we go into the future. Mangold shows the effects of automation on the common farmer, as well as some of the possibilities that come with human enhancement using technology. The focus of the film was to create a more human character for the Wolverine, but a side effect of this story set in the future is showing the many consequences of computing technology on society.
